NATIONWIDE PROTEST: YOU CAN’T PROTEST IN ABUJA CP TO RESIDENTS

The Commissioner of Police for the Federal Capital Territory, Mr. Bennett Igweh, has urged the residents and indigenes of the FCT to refrain from participating in the nationwide protest scheduled for August 1.
In a statement made to journalists in Abuja on Monday, the FCT CP expressed concern that the proposed protest could jeopardize the significant security efforts undertaken by the police to ensure the safety of the FCT populace. The CP’s statement reads, in part:
“Distinguished residents of the Federal Capital Territory, It has come to my attention that there are efforts to test the resolve and capabilities of our law enforcement agencies. I implore you, in the strongest possible terms, to refrain from such actions. The destruction of the very environment in which we live should not be the answer.
“I must emphasize that the government has been working tirelessly to provide us with the necessary infrastructure, particularly in the form of well-maintained roads. Whether it is the initiative of the Honorable Minister of the Federal Capital Territory or the esteemed President himself, the streets of the FCT, from Wuse to the furthest reaches of the hinterlands, bear witness to these improvements.
“I kindly request that you do not allow outsiders or miscreants to come and jeopardize the progress we have made. We must not revert to the conditions we once endured. I beseech you, do not join in these proposed protests.
“Instead, I implore you to continue working collectively to maintain the safety and security of our beloved Federal Capital Territory. Let those who wish to pursue their agendas do so elsewhere, but not within the confines of our community. I urge you to act with maturity and appreciation for the sacrifices that have been made to ensure your well-being.
“I would like to appeal specifically to the residents, indigenes, and all citizens within the FCT,” stated Mr. Igweh. “It is crucial that we protect our own community, just as a lion does not destroy its own den. I implore you not to join this protest, as we have worked tirelessly to safeguard your security.”
The Commissioner further noted that the police have made concerted efforts to combat criminal elements outside of Abuja, including operations in Kaduna, Nasarawa, and Niger states. “Unfortunately, this has come at a great cost, with the loss of two of our personnel just last week in Gidango, and two more officers on another occasion. I beseech you, let our sacrifices serve to protect the community, rather than be in vain through participation in the protest.”
“Together, let us preserve the peace and progress that we have worked so hard to achieve. I am confident that by remaining steadfast and responsible, we can continue to build a brighter future for our beloved city” the commissioner of police stated.
