Edo State Labour Party Jubilates Over Abure’s Triumph in Court as National Chairman

The Edo State Chapter of the Labour Party (LP) recently extended warm congratulations to Barrister Julius Abure, the National Chairman, following his legal triumph at the Federal High Court in Benin. The court’s decision to dismiss a lawsuit challenging Abure’s legitimacy as National Chairman has been met with jubilation within the party ranks.
In a statement issued by Airen Igbinedion, Edo State’s Publicity Secretary of the Labour Party, he expressed profound satisfaction with the court’s ruling. “We are delighted by the Federal High Court in Benin’s decision to uphold Barrister Julius Abure’s rightful position as the National Chairman of our esteemed party,” he remarked.
The statement underscored the importance of the court’s verdict, emphasizing that it reaffirmed the party’s constitution. According to the constitution, the National Chairman can only be removed from office through a two-thirds majority vote at a national convention specifically convened for that purpose. This provision explicitly denies any ward, local government, or state the authority to unilaterally suspend or dismiss the National Chairman.

Under the steadfast leadership of Rt. Honourable (Mrs.) Elizabeth Ativie, the State Working Committee (SWC) called upon all members and supporters of the Labour Party to unite behind Barrister Julius Abure. They emphasized the critical role of unity in securing victory for the party and its candidates in the forthcoming September 21 election. The statement positioned Barrister Abure’s legal victory as a timely boost for the party, particularly amid the pressing need for effective governance in the state. It encouraged party members and loyal supporters in Edo State to continue their efforts to reclaim political authority from those who have unlawfully assumed power.
Looking ahead, the Labour Party in Edo State remains resolute in its commitment to promoting transparency, accountability, and inclusivity within its ranks. The affirmation of Barrister Abure’s leadership serves as a catalyst for renewed enthusiasm and dedication among party members across the state.

In response to the court’s ruling, grassroots mobilization efforts have intensified, with party members actively engaging in community outreach and voter education initiatives. The goal is to galvanize widespread support and mobilize voters ahead of the upcoming election, where the Labour Party aims to assert its influence and advocate for policies that resonate with the aspirations of Edo State residents.

Furthermore, the statement acknowledged the challenges ahead but expressed confidence in Barrister Abure’s ability to lead the party through turbulent waters. His leadership, characterized by resilience and strategic foresight, has been instrumental in steering the Labour Party towards achieving its long-term objectives amidst a competitive political landscape.

As preparations for the September 21 election gain momentum, the Labour Party remains steadfast in its commitment to fostering a robust democratic process and ensuring that the voices of ordinary citizens are heard and respected. The party’s platform continues to prioritize issues such as healthcare, education, infrastructure development, and job creation, reflecting its dedication to improving the quality of life for all Edo State residents.
The Labour Party in Edo State views Barrister Julius Abure’s legal victory as a testament to the resilience of democratic institutions and the rule of law. It serves as a rallying cry for party members and supporters to redouble their efforts in advancing the party’s agenda and securing a brighter future for the people of Edo State.
