#EndBadGoverment: Any gathering in Lagos is unlawful – Police
Share on FacebookShare on TwitterShare on WhatsappShare on EmailShare on Telegram

Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Adegoke Fayoade, has unilaterally announced a ban on the ongoing #EndBadGovernanceinNigeria protest. This decision follows a recent address by President Bola Tinubu, which aimed to address the concerns of the protesters.

On Sunday, Fayoade spoke to journalists about the development. He explained that, according to the new directive, all forms of gatherings related to the protest are now deemed illegal. This is in response to President Tinubu’s recent speech, which was intended to respond to the grievances of those participating in the protest.

Fayoade clarified that the protest has been officially called off due to the President’s intervention. He noted that the President’s address was seen as a significant step towards resolving the issues raised by the protesters. As a result, the authorities are now taking the stance that any further demonstrations are not permitted.

“The decision to end the protest comes as a result of the President’s speech,” Fayoade said. “The protesters have expressed their belief that the President has addressed their issues, and they are now looking forward to him fulfilling his promises. In light of this, any new gatherings, whether in Lagos or elsewhere, will be considered illegal.”

He emphasized that the police will enforce the law strictly to prevent any further unlawful assemblies. According to Fayoade, the end of the protest means that the police will apply the full extent of the law to any groups that attempt to continue protesting. This approach is intended to maintain public order and ensure that the resolutions proposed by the President are adhered to.

Fayoade’s comments come at a time when the situation surrounding the protest has become increasingly tense. The #EndBadGovernanceinNigeria movement has been a significant issue in the country, with many people taking to the streets to voice their dissatisfaction with the current state of governance. The protest has seen widespread participation and has brought national attention to various issues within the Nigerian government.

With the President’s recent address aiming to address the protesters’ demands, the authorities hope that this will lead to a de-escalation of the situation. Fayoade’s statement underscores the government’s position on maintaining public order and ensuring that the President’s speech serves as a resolution to the protest’s objectives.

The Lagos State Commissioner of Police has declared that the #EndBadGovernanceinNigeria protest is officially banned following President Tinubu’s address. The authorities are now focused on enforcing the law to prevent any further gatherings related to the protest, with the aim of maintaining public order and addressing the concerns raised by the protesters.

The ban on protests reflects a broader effort by the authorities to manage public demonstrations and ensure that any future gatherings do not disrupt public order. The police are prepared to take action against any groups that defy the new regulations, emphasizing the importance of compliance with the law.
