Ondo Election: Former Governorship Aspirant Dumps PDP, Emerges Labour Party Candidate

Olusola Ebiseni, a former governorship candidate with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has made a significant political shift by leaving the PDP to join the Labour Party (LP). This change marks a new chapter in his political career as he is now the Labour Party’s official candidate for the Ondo State governorship election, which is scheduled for November 2024. Ebiseni referred to his move to the Labour Party as a “return home,” suggesting a sense of coming back to a political environment where he feels more aligned.

According to reporters, Dayo Awude, who previously served as the commissioner for Youth and Sports in Ondo State, has been selected as Ebiseni’s running mate for the position of deputy governorship candidate. This choice is expected to bolster the Labour Party’s campaign with his experience and local knowledge.

During a press conference held in Akure, the capital of Ondo State, Ebiseni was accompanied by prominent members of the Labour Party’s National Transition Committee (NTC). This group included Comrade Abdul Waheed Omar, Dr. Kingsley Okundaye, Prof. Theophilus Ndubuaku, and Folu Bademosi. Ebiseni emphasized that his candidacy is in strict adherence to the guidelines of the Electoral Act, ensuring that his campaign remains within the legal framework.

In his address to the media, Ebiseni expressed his excitement about this new political journey, stating, “I am back home. We will work tirelessly for the people of Ondo State. The Labour Party has been instrumental in many of the state’s developmental projects. We are here to bring healing and fresh opportunities to our people.”

Ebiseni praised the Labour Party as a leading political force and expressed confidence in its ability to perform well in the upcoming election. He outlined his vision for the state, focusing on leveraging Ondo’s abundant resources. Ebiseni highlighted the state’s human capital, its status as a major oil producer, its extensive coastline, rich forests, agricultural potential, and mineral resources. He stressed the importance of utilizing these assets effectively for the state’s comprehensive development.

He further stated, “I am answering the call of the people of Ondo State to serve through the Labour Party. The party’s symbol of unity and family resonates with the meaning of my name, Ebiseni.”
Ebiseni concluded by noting that the Labour Party has a strong historical presence in Ondo State. He, along with his running mate and many other politicians from various parties, has previously served the state in different capacities. This experience, he believes, will be invaluable as they seek to address the state’s needs and drive progress.
