The Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) has issued a stern warning to its customers that they must pay existing energy debts by June 3 or face immediate disconnection.
Data from the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission, NERC, shows that AEDC had about 1.4 million registered customers as of end-March 2024 in its franchise area covering the Federal Capital Territory state, FCT, Nasarawa, Niger and Kogi State. This gadget also has a metering ratio of 61.07.
AEDC emphasizes the importance of respecting payment deadlines as there will be no sacred cows.
The threat was outlined in a statement released by the company on Friday and signed by Disco’s Acting Chief Operating Officer and Chief Operating Officer, Victor Ojelabi.
It reads: “The Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) hereby advises all customers with unpaid bills to settle their accounts immediately to avoid any service disruption.”To this end, customers who have not paid their outstanding bills within the next 72 hours, by Monday, June 3, 2024, will face a power cut. Utility companies emphasize the importance of meeting payment deadlines to ensure efficient and reliable service.
“Timely payment of electricity bills remains critical to continued operations and improvements to AEDC’s infrastructure, which is essential to providing uninterrupted service to the community. “Payment deadline: All outstanding invoices must be paid within 72 hours of this notice, no later than Monday, June 3, 2024.”
