President Bola Tinubu has emphasized that Africa offers significant opportunities for investment, growth, and development due to its dynamic population, productive economy, and rich natural resources. Speaking during a bilateral meeting with Chinese Premier Li Qiang in Beijing on Wednesday, President Tinubu underscored the continent’s potential and the importance of strengthening ties between Africa and China.
The meeting was held as part of the ninth Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC), an event dedicated to enhancing the partnership between the two regions. President Tinubu commended FOCAC for its pivotal role in fostering mutual development and prosperity. He noted that the spirit of FOCAC is grounded in mutual respect and partnership, which aims to promote development, happiness, peace, and stability for the people of both Africa and China.
“The African spirit for FOCAC is based on mutual respect and a partnership that enhances our shared development goals. We are on this journey together, united by our common interests in investments and development,” President Tinubu said. He also expressed his satisfaction with the strategic partnership being developed, highlighting its positive reception from both sides.
As the Chairman of ECOWAS and a representative of Nigeria, President Tinubu emphasized the need for a strategic focus on areas where Africa and China can collaborate effectively. He stressed that Africa represents a vast opportunity for economic development and that a successful partnership requires a clear focus on mutually beneficial projects.
“Africa is a land of immense opportunities. As a continent, we are eager to collaborate for mutual progress and development. The success of our partnership will depend on how well FOCAC addresses the areas where we can work together to ensure that our relationship benefits both sides,” President Tinubu stated.
In addition to discussing economic cooperation, President Tinubu took the opportunity to thank the Chinese government for its warm reception. Despite the challenges of international travel, he expressed his appreciation for the hospitality extended to him and his delegation. “I am grateful for the warm welcome we have received. Despite the jetlag, we are ready to move forward with our agenda and strengthen our partnership,” he concluded.
Premier Li Qiang responded by assuring President Tinubu that China is committed to working with Nigeria to implement the mutual understanding and agreements reached between President Xi Jinping and President Tinubu. This comprehensive strategic partnership aims to further deepen the collaboration between the two countries, promoting shared growth and development.
The discussions highlight a growing commitment from both nations to enhance their economic ties and address common challenges through effective and strategic cooperation.
