Anthony Joshua is poised to break Tyson Fury’s record for the largest British attendance at a boxing event with his upcoming world title bout against Daniel Dubois.
Scheduled for September 21 at Wembley Stadium, Joshua’s challenge for the IBF belt is expected to draw a crowd exceeding 100,000 spectators, surpassing the 94,000 who witnessed Fury’s knockout of Dillian Whyte in April 2023. Promoter Frank Warren, speaking on talkSPORT, expressed confidence that this event will eclipse Fury’s record-breaking turnout.
“We anticipate another historic turnout. Similar to Tyson Fury’s fight against Dillian Whyte, we are already making arrangements to expand the stadium capacity,” Warren remarked. “I believe we will break that attendance record this time. The anticipation is palpable.”
Joshua, known for his ability to fill stadiums, previously attracted over 90,000 fans at Wembley in 2017 during his memorable victory over Wladimir Klitschko. He has also drawn crowds of 75,000 at Cardiff’s Principality Stadium and 62,000 at Tottenham’s football ground.
Despite Joshua’s recent fights taking place in Saudi Arabia, where he secured knockout victories against Otto Wallin and former UFC champion Francis Ngannou, Warren remains optimistic about Dubois’ chances against the formidable Joshua.
“Many are favoring Joshua, citing his power, but Daniel has proven himself against tougher opponents recently,” Warren noted. “I genuinely believe Daniel can win this. He’s young, and his recent opponents have been more challenging than Joshua’s. While AJ has looked good, Daniel’s power could be the difference.”
The upcoming clash at Wembley promises to be a spectacle, with both fighters eager to make their mark on British boxing history.
