The APC 2027 presidential ticket debate intensified after party leaders endorsed President Bola Tinubu for re-election on Wednesday.
APC’s National Organising Secretary, Sulaiman Argungu, addressed journalists in Abuja, confirming Tinubu’s endorsement while emphasizing that aspirants remain free.
He explained that the National Working Committee, the Progressives Governors Forum under Governor Hope Uzodinma, and the National Assembly led by Senator Godswill Akpabio unanimously backed Tinubu’s second-term bid.
However, Argungu stressed that the APC remains a democratic platform and would not restrict members interested in contesting the APC 2027 presidential ticket.
“We will never close our doors to other presidential aspirants,” he said, insisting aspirants can freely obtain nomination forms.
He added that the endorsement only reflects appreciation for Tinubu’s achievements in governance, which party leaders believe merit a second term.
The Sokoto-born party executive dismissed comparisons with the PDP’s 2014 decision, when former President Goodluck Jonathan was given an uncontested ticket.
Speaking on APC’s by-election victories, Argungu credited success in 13 of 16 seats to “the grace of Almighty Allah” and party unity.
“These wins are more than statistics; they confirm Nigerians’ belief in APC’s capacity to deliver purposeful governance,” he explained.
The party sees the victories as proof of its national acceptance and citizens’ confidence in Tinubu’s leadership heading into the 2027 APC primaries.
