The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Alhaji Abdulahi Ganduje, has announced the party’s commitment to ending the marginalisation of Igbos and ensuring their active participation in national politics. Speaking at the APC South East zonal meeting in Abakaliki, Ganduje acknowledged the significant support of Igbos towards the party and the administration led by President Bola Tinubu.
He emphasized the need to distinguish between marginalization and the Southeast’s performance within the APC, stating that the party is determined to break the cycle of marginalization. Ganduje highlighted recent appointments from President Tinubu’s administration to the Southeast as a positive step, noting that increased involvement in the party’s activities will yield further achievements.
“The current appointments extended to the zone by President Bola Tinubu’s administration are encouraging,” Ganduje remarked. “With greater engagement in the party’s affairs, we aim to dismantle this cycle of marginalization through unity, determination, and unwavering support for the party and President Bola Tinubu’s leadership.” He commended Ebonyi State for following Imo’s lead in promoting APC activities and thanked Governor Francis Nwifuru for upholding the party’s principles in the state. Ganduje identified the challenge of consolidating support in Anambra, Enugu, and Abia states, emphasizing the importance of collaboration among stakeholders to achieve this objective. Governor Francis Nwifuru of Ebonyi expressed gratitude for the party’s leaders attending the meeting, underscoring APC’s growing influence in the state and across the Southeast.
He highlighted Ebonyi’s inclusive policies, which have united stakeholders under the APC banner, citing the recent defection of opposition members to the party as evidence of effective persuasion over conflict. Governor Hope Uzodimma of Imo described the current economic challenges faced under APC rule as an unfortunate coincidence with global economic downturns.
He expressed optimism that President Tinubu’s administration’s tested policies, if properly implemented, would alleviate hardships faced by Nigerians. In his remarks, Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives Benjamin Kalu urged Southeast residents to support federal government initiatives aimed at ending the zone’s marginalisation. He commended President Tinubu for appointing Igbos to significant positions in his administration, stressing the need for appreciation through continued support.
Kalu highlighted the imminent passage of the South East Development Commission Bill, which aims to address various challenges confronting Igbos pending the President’s approval.
