APC Responds to Rumors on Ganduje’s Removal Ahead of NEC and Caucus Meetings

Senator Ajibola Basiru, the National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has addressed concerns that the upcoming Caucus and National Executive Committee (NEC) meetings on September 11 and 12 are aimed at removing the party’s National Chair, Abdullahi Ganduje, from his position.

Basiru made these remarks during a courtesy visit by Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State to the APC national secretariat in Abuja. He emphasized that these meetings are standard procedures and are not connected to any plans for leadership changes. “These meetings are part of our regular schedule and are not intended to elect new leaders. The National Caucus and the NEC meetings are established under Article 11 of our party’s constitution,” he said.

He further explained that the primary purpose of these meetings is to review the party’s progress and discuss future plans. “These meetings are routine and meant to give an update on what has been accomplished under Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje’s leadership. We will present our audit report to show what we have been doing and to discuss our plans moving forward,” Basiru noted.

Recent media reports have speculated that these meetings might be used as a platform to replace Ganduje, who has been serving as the APC National Chairman. Some sources suggest that Ganduje, who was previously the governor of Kano State, might be considered for an ambassadorial role, which could potentially explain the rumors about a leadership change.

Basiru addressed these speculations by reiterating that there is no agenda to change the party’s leadership. “It is unfortunate that people are trying to twist the purpose of these meetings. We want to make it clear that there is no plan to remove Dr. Ganduje or any other leader from their position. These meetings are simply an opportunity to assess our achievements and plan for the future,” he stated.

The National Secretary also took the opportunity to thank Governor Sule for his visit and expressed the party’s openness to continued support and collaboration. “We are grateful to Governor Sule for stopping by and showing support for our party. We value such visits and look forward to working together to strengthen our party,” Basiru said.

The APC is emphasizing that the forthcoming Caucus and NEC meetings are routine and focused on internal assessments and future planning. Despite rumors, the party leadership insists that there are no plans to alter the current leadership structure. The meetings will serve as a platform for reviewing progress and outlining future strategies for the APC.
