The All Progressives Congress (APC) has accused Rivers Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, of being the mastermind behind the crisis in the state. APC national spokesperson, Felix Morka, described the crisis rocking the oil-rich state as appalling.
“Contrary to the PDP’s baseless objections to Chief Okocha’s remarks, Governor Siminalayi Fubara is the mastermind behind the appalling crisis in Rivers state,” Morka said in a statement on Thursday in response to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)’s assertion of an alleged plot to forcefully take over the government of Rivers.
He mentioned that the opposition party made the “false” assertion without addressing the challenges plaguing the state, accusing the governor of demonstrating contempt for the rule of law since taking office.”Since assuming office more than a year ago, Governor Fubara has exhibited blatant disregard for the rule of law and democratic institutions and has governed in blatant violation of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
“In an unprecedented act of autocratic arrogance, Governor Fubara declared the democratically elected Rivers state House of Assembly as non-existent and, without legal authority, established a fraudulent and illegal three-man assembly in clear violation of specific provisions of the Constitution regarding the composition of the House of Assembly and in defiance of the separation of powers principle.
“The Governor has continually used public funds without legal appropriations by a properly constituted legislature, thus undermining the desire of the people of Rivers State for effective and accountable democratic governance,” the statement mentioned.
According to Morka, a “dedicated and serious” governor would have established a clear plan to conduct local government elections in the state.
