The United Kingdom Chapter of the All Progressive Congress (APC) is set to convene a
congress to inaugurate new leaders.
The congress, as per the organizers, is scheduled to take place from June 27 to 29 in
London. They have ensured that meticulous arrangements have been put in place to
guarantee a transparent and equitable electoral process. The delegates of the party, as
mentioned by the organizers, have been selected from all the different caucuses within
the chapter. A total of 28 members are slated to vie for various leadership positions,
including the Chairman, Deputy National Chairmen (North and South), Secretary,
Deputy Secretary, Publicity Secretary, Deputy Publicity Secretary, Financial Secretary,
Treasurer, Youth Leader, Welfare Secretary, and Legal Officer, among others. The
National Secretary of the party, Senator Dr. Ajibola Basiru, along with other members of
the party’s National Working Committee (NWC), such as the National Organizing
Secretary, Alhaji Argungu, are expected to grace the occasion. In January 2024, a 22-
member Interim Committee was appointed to oversee the affairs of the chapter, with
Hon. Tunde Doherty as the Chairman and Hon. Joseph Adebola as the Secretary.
Addressing the measures implemented for the congress’s success, Councillor Tunde
Ajisola, a member of the Interim Committee, emphasized that the upcoming UK
congress holds significant historical importance for the APC’s UK chapter. “The
forthcoming UK congress is pivotal to the APC’s overall success, as it marks the very
first Nigerian party congress held outside Nigeria, following the successful inclusion of a
Diaspora chapter in the APC’s amended constitution of 2022,” stated Ajisola.
