The All Progressives Congress (APC), on Tuesday, responded to the recent visits of former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, and other notable northern politicians to the immediate-past President, Muhammadu Buhari. Umpire News confirms the visit, labeled as a Sallah homage, has elicited varied reactions.
There are assertions that the visits to Buhari’s residence in Daura, Katsina State are part of a strategy to displace President Bola Tinubu in 2027.
The Deputy National Organising Secretary of the APC, Nze Chidi Duru, asserted that the ruling party is not daunted by the visits.
Duru highlighted that every Nigerian, including politicians, is entitled to freedom of association as enshrined in Nigeria’s Constitution.
He expressed, “While some may perceive a political motive behind such interactions, we cannot relinquish the realm of politics to others. Even if there is an ulterior motive, I firmly believe that every Nigerian has the right to exercise their discretion. There is no prohibition on any Nigerian from visiting anyone.
“They can engage with individuals in any capacity, as long as it contributes to national progress and does not compromise national security. Nigerians are encouraged to interact with anyone and express their opinions and sentiments freely. That is my stance on the issue, as it is protected by the Nigerian Constitution.”
