All prospective members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Bauchi State aspiring to participate in the primary elections for the upcoming LGAs elections have been instructed to promptly resign from their current positions.
The directive was issued by the State Chairman of the PDP, Hamza Koshe Akuyam, during an interaction with Journalists following a State Executive Council (SEC) meeting of the Party convened on Sunday evening. Hamza Koshe Akuyam urged the concerned individuals to tender their resignations by Friday, the 19th of July, 2024.
The PDP Chairman affirmed the party’s commitment to backing all successful candidates emerging from the primary elections, emphasizing that financial constraints should not hinder anyone.
In a similar vein, the PDP Public Relations Officer, Alh Yayanuwa Zainabari, disclosed that the PDP has set the expression of interest form fee at N200,000 for male candidates, and N100,000 for female candidates. Regarding the councillorship positions, male candidates are required to remit N100,000 for the expression of interest form, while female candidates are expected to submit N50,000.
The PDP’s directive to aspirants in Bauchi State to resign from their current positions ahead of the local government elections showcases the party’s commitment to ensuring a fair and transparent primary election process. By requiring candidates to step down from their roles, the PDP aims to uphold integrity and prevent conflicts of interest that could compromise the electoral process. This move also emphasizes the party’s dedication to promoting new and fresh leadership within the local government structures.
Furthermore, the decision to set specific expression of interest form fees for male and female candidates reflects the PDP’s efforts to promote gender equality and inclusivity in politics. By reducing the fee for female candidates, the party encourages more women to participate in the electoral process and seek leadership positions at the grassroots level. This initiative aligns with broader efforts to enhance women’s representation in governance and decision-making roles.
Overall, the PDP’s actions in Bauchi State signal a proactive approach to ensuring a level playing field for all aspirants, promoting diversity, and fostering democratic practices within the party. By setting clear guidelines and expectations for candidates, the PDP aims to strengthen its internal processes and ultimately deliver credible and competent leaders for the upcoming local government elections.
