The Enugu State Government has issued a stern warning to the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) regarding potential disruptions to the current West African Examination Council (WAEC) examinations scheduled for May 30.
In a statement released by the Commissioner for Information and Communication, Aka Eze Aka, yesterday, the government emphasized its zero tolerance for any unlawful activities by IPOB within the state. Aka urged students to proceed with their exams and daily routines on May 30, assuring them of comprehensive security measures.
Expressing deep concern, the state government acknowledged IPOB’s directive to WAEC to postpone the General Mathematics exam slated for May 30, coinciding with IPOB’s designated “Biafra Heroes Day.”
“We are deeply troubled by IPOB’s insistence that the lives of students could be at risk due to the perceived unsafe environment in Biafra territory on that day,” Aka stated.
He firmly stated that the people of Igbo heritage thrive on diligence, education, and the development of human potential. Any attempt to hinder children’s access to education, their gateway to a prosperous future, is deemed unacceptable.
While acknowledging the sacrifices made by past generations to secure the well-being of Igboland, the government stressed the importance of nurturing human potential to achieve excellence on both personal and collective levels.
The government will not stand idly by while the aspirations of our youth are jeopardized by misguided directives aimed at restricting their educational opportunities.
Recognizing WAEC as a regional body encompassing not only Nigeria but the entire West African region, the government encouraged candidates partaking in the WAEC exams in Enugu State to attend their examination centers without hesitation on May 30.
