A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Bode George, has expressed deep shock over the defection of Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
George shared his reaction on Tuesday during an interview on Politics Today, a political programme on Channels Television. Peter Mbah defects to APC
“I Never Saw It Coming” — Bode George
Speaking on the development, George said he did not anticipate Mbah’s defection despite several reconciliation efforts by PDP elders.
“I never saw it at any time,” he said. “In fact, when Anyanwu was brought back as secretary to complete his assignment, he asked his people not to attend meetings.”
George added that the sudden move came as a surprise to many within the party, describing it as a personal decision by the Enugu governor.
Governor Peter Mbah officially announced his defection from the PDP to the APC on Tuesday. His switch adds to the growing list of prominent politicians who have recently left the opposition party.
Meanwhile, sources within the Enugu political circle say Mbah’s decision followed weeks of high-level discussions with APC leaders at the national level.
PDP Remains Strong Despite Defections — George
Despite the setback, Bode George maintained that the PDP remains strong and committed to rebuilding its structure across the country.
“People have the right to make political choices. We wish him well, but our party remains solid,” he said.
