The wife of the governor of Anambra State, Mrs. Nonye Soludo, has generously sponsored the enrollment of 1,000 individuals with special needs in the Anambra State Healthcare Insurance Scheme.
Gathered at the governor’s residence in Amawbia, individuals with diverse disabilities, physical challenges, and visual impairments, among others, were warmly received by the governor’s wife. She emphasized the importance of addressing them as individuals with special needs rather than using potentially offensive terms. This gesture not only fostered a sense of inclusion but also made them feel like esteemed members of the Anambra community.
During the event, which marked the largest assembly of beneficiaries to receive sponsorship from a governor’s wife since the scheme’s establishment in 2018, Mrs. Soludo underscored that this initiative was a testament to her husband’s administration’s steadfast commitment to the well-being of individuals with special needs, particularly those residing in rural areas.
As the founder of the Healthy Living with Nonye Soludo Initiative, Mrs. Soludo expressed her joy in supporting the enrollment of beneficiaries from all 179 communities in the state, emphasizing that this assistance is provided at no cost to the beneficiaries.
“The current government in the state is driven by the aspiration to deliver accessible services to our populace. We acknowledge and commend the endeavors of our government across various sectors to ensure equitable access to healthcare for all Anambra residents.
“Our administration is dedicated to ensuring that every Anambra State resident encounters good governance. We prioritize inclusivity in our policies, striving to harness the potential of each individual in Anambra and furnish them with opportunities to flourish.
“Each and every one of you present here harbors a distinct aspiration. Your contributions enrich our journey towards a more habitable and prosperous Anambra State. We have complete confidence in your capabilities.
“I wish to reassure you that my husband’s administration recognizes your presence and is actively pursuing initiatives to support you. A while back, I advocated for special provisions for individuals with special needs during the state’s recruitment processes. I recommended that individuals with special conditions should have designated interview days with added comfort and support. Furthermore, I have been championing for our community to extend aid to individuals with visual impairments.
“By launching the White Cane Campaign in Anambra State last year, I realized the significant duty of leading by example.”
