A fully loaded BRT bus overturned onto its side within the designated Bus Rapid Transit Lane along the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway, close to Iyana-Ipaja. The incident, which took place earlier on Friday, has resulted in several casualties.

The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) reported this in a post on X, indicating that the accident occurred at approximately 7:45 AM.

LASTMA, the agency responsible for traffic management and enforcement of traffic laws in Lagos State, stated, “A fully loaded high-capacity bus has tipped over in the dedicated BRT lane, resulting in ten casualties, who are currently receiving medical attention.”

Emergency responders promptly arrived at the scene to offer medical assistance and transport the injured individuals to nearby medical facilities.

Details regarding the cause of the accident and the condition of the victims have not yet been released, as LASTMA officials and first respondents were seen at the scene of the accident offering first aid and other assistance to the victims. Authorities are advising motorists to exercise caution while navigating the area.

In a related incident, the agency also reported that another loaded truck had overturned at Durbar Junction on the Lagos-Badagry Expressway, completely obstructing the road leading to Alakija.

This accident has led to significant traffic disruptions, prompting authorities to redirect vehicles through the service lane from Orile towards Durbar. Motorists are advised to adhere to the diversion and remain patient as efforts are being made to clear the obstruction and restore normal traffic conditions.

The post stated, “[7:22 AM] #LagBadgryExp #DurbarJunction #AccidentReport A loaded truck has overturned at Durbar Junction towards Alakija, blocking the entire road.
“Traffic has been redirected through the service lane from Orile to Durbar.
“Efforts are ongoing to remove the vehicle from the roadway, and our personnel are actively monitoring the situation.”
