Despite being involved in more than thirty goals for Rangers, Dessers has not had a pleasant experience at Ibrox due to constant criticism. Super Eagles and Rangers forward, Cyriel Kolawole Dessers, has submitted a transfer request after spending a year in Glasgow, as reported by Umpire News.
The 29-year-old made the move to the Scottish champions from the relegated Serie A team, Cremonese, in a deal valued at around £4.5m, but had a challenging start before finding his scoring form for the Belgian-born Nigerian striker. Rangers narrowly missed out on winning the league title and the Scottish Cup, but Dessers had an impressive season, scoring 22 goals and providing nine assists. Unfortunately, he was forced to exit the final against Celtic due to an ankle injury sustained in the first half.
According to a report, the Super League Champions, PAOK Thessaloniki, have shown interest in acquiring the services of the six-time capped Nigerian striker, despite him having three years remaining on his contract.
William Troost-Ekong’s PAOK narrowly clinched the Greek League title last season, finishing two points ahead of AEK Athens on the final day of the campaign to secure their first trophy in nearly five years, which will see them participate in the Champions League qualifiers under the new format next season. Dessers, as reported, is open to a move abroad and has formally requested a transfer from the club as negotiations with PAOK progress.
The former forward is seeking stability in the next chapter of his career. PAOK’s manager, the Romanian Razvan Lucescu, is eager to have the main striker for the upcoming season’s team available for pre-season preparations, indicating his desire for the transfer to be finalized before the start of the new season. Clement’s team has already bid farewell to several players, including Fabio Silva, Ryan Jack, Kemar Roofe, and Jon McLaughlin, implying that there will be changes in the forward line at Rangers next season, irrespective of Dessers’ potential transfer. Rangers News has linked the Glasgow-based club with various striking options this summer, such as Moroccan forward Hamza Igamane and Albion Rahmani.
Due to an ankle injury, Dessers was unable to participate in Nigeria’s FIFA World Cup qualifiers against South Africa and Benin Republic.
