Abuja, Nigeria, the African Democratic Congress accused the EFCC of witch-hunt opposition leaders with politically motivated investigations.
The party said David Mark, its interim chairman and former Senate President, is the agency’s latest target.
ADC spokesperson Bola Abdullahi alleged a choreographed media trial following Tambuwal’s detention and Ihedioha’s invitation earlier this week.
He argued the EFCC resurrected decades old files on Mark while overlooking fresher allegations surrounding ruling party figures.
According to Abdullahi, this pattern demonstrates selective justice designed to intimidate and weaken the opposition before 2027.
He said Ihedioha governed only seven months before removal in 2020, questioning the sudden urgency driving investigators now.
Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar criticised President Tinubu for weaponising anti corruption, coercing opposition figures to defect, allegedly.
He warned such selective prosecutions embolden corruption, undermine democracy, and chill legitimate dissent across Nigeria’s political landscape.
Rights group HURIWA similarly condemned the campaign, calling the EFCC a political lapdog deployed to cripple opposition participation.
National Coordinator Emmanuel Onwubiko argued the agency abandoned watchdog duties, embracing suppression that erodes trust before upcoming elections.
However, the EFCC dismissed the allegations as self serving, diversionary, idle, insisting its investigations remain lawful and impartial.
Meanwhile, the ADC urged Nigerians to demand an end to witch hunts disguised as anti corruption nationwide today.
The party maintained David Mark remains committed to accountability, yet rejects politically tainted probes driven by partisan objectives.
Additionally, the coalition insisted anti graft agencies must pursue cases transparently, irrespective of party lines or political convenience.
Observers say the dispute underscores rising tensions as opposition alliances consolidate agendas ahead of Nigeria’s decisive 2027 elections.
