Borussia Dortmund are reportedly considering a loan move for Manchester United’s Marcus Rashford this January, as multiple clubs, including AC Milan and Juventus, show interest in the 27-year-old forward. The potential deal comes as Rashford finds himself increasingly sidelined at Old Trafford, with United and the player exploring options for a fresh challenge.
Rashford, a long-time fixture in United’s attack, has been absent from the squad in recent matches, including the club’s last six games across all competitions. Despite his struggles to secure consistent playing time under manager Amorim, Rashford remains one of United’s top earners, which could complicate any loan arrangement. His hefty wages—over £325,000 per week—would likely require United to heavily subsidise any deal, similar to their arrangement for Jadon Sancho last season.
While no decision has been made, Dortmund are reportedly keen on adding the England international to their ranks. The Bundesliga side is in need of a wide forward, especially with Donyell Malen expected to leave this window and Karem Adeyemi recently recovering from injury. Rashford’s versatility in attack, being able to play both wide or centrally, fits the club’s tactical approach under manager Nuri Sahin.
Dortmund’s desire to bring in Rashford is rooted in their current forward struggles, with young talents like Jamie Gittens and Julian Duranville still developing and prone to injuries. Rashford’s experience, having earned 60 caps for England and almost a decade at United, could be invaluable for mentoring the club’s younger forwards, as well as providing an immediate boost to their attacking options.
However, the financial aspect remains a significant hurdle. Dortmund’s top earner, defender Niklas Sule, makes significantly less than Rashford, and covering such a large portion of his wages could prove a challenge. United’s willingness to subsidise the loan deal will be crucial in determining whether this transfer materialises before the window closes.
