Tragedy struck on Wednesday along the Lagos-Ibadan Motorway when a driver lost his life after his white Mazda bus collided with a moving truck near Car Park C in the Lotto area. The driver, who was the sole occupant of the bus, was transporting a load of potatoes to Lagos when the accident occurred.
According to eyewitnesses, the driver may have fallen asleep behind the wheel, leading to a loss of control and a rear-end collision with the truck. The impact left the driver trapped in the wreckage, and he died at the scene before emergency responders could free him.
Babatunde Akinbiyi, the Public Relations Officer of the Ogun State Traffic Enforcement and Compliance Agency, confirmed the incident, attributing the crash to excessive speed and possible fatigue. He explained that the driver was likely exhausted after driving through the night, resulting in the tragic accident.
Akinbiyi urged motorists to avoid speeding and night travel, emphasising the risks posed by fatigue on high-traffic highways. He extended condolences to the bereaved family and called for stricter road safety measures to prevent similar accidents in the future.
