Prior to the gubernatorial election in Edo State scheduled for September 2024, Barrister Felix Alari, a former Federal Commissioner of the Public Complaints Commission and a prominent member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state, has officially stepped down from his position within the party.
In a formal communication dated May 20, 2024, directed to the party’s leadership, Barrister Alari articulated, “This resolution has been prompted by the manner in which the party’s affairs have been managed, particularly evident in the conduct of party primaries and various other related matters.”
He elaborated, stating, “Despite my longstanding association with this party since its inception and my consistent efforts over the years to contribute diligently within the party’s structure to foster a robust political entity, it has become apparent that the party has veered off course and strayed significantly from its fundamental principles.
“The current state of the APC in Edo State is one of disarray, characterized by short-sighted and self-centered individuals who exhibit minimal respect for intellect, party allegiance, and democratic values.”
Expressing his sentiments further, he affirmed, “While I will always value the experiences and connections established during my extensive tenure in the APC, I cannot, in good conscience, align myself with a party that has forsaken its original ethos and cherished ideals.”
During an interview, the former APC leader emphasized, “Given the prevailing economic hardships, insecurity, and despondency in the country, it is inconceivable that any discerning individual from Edo State would support the APC.
“It is imperative for the people of Edo to recognize that endorsing an APC candidate equates to endorsing poverty, corruption, the erosion of our collective heritage, thuggery, and the perpetuation of ongoing adversity.”
