Edo 2024: Obaseki Appoints New Secretary as SSG Resigns
Share on FacebookShare on TwitterShare on WhatsappShare on EmailShare on Telegram

Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, has appointed Joseph Eboigbe as the new Secretary to the Edo State Government. This appointment comes after the resignation of the previous Secretary, Osarodion Ogie. Ogie resigned to focus on his political career, having recently been chosen as the running mate to Asue Ighodalo, the Peoples Democratic Party’s gubernatorial candidate for the upcoming Edo State election.

On Monday, Crusoe Osagie, who serves as the Special Adviser to the Governor on Media Projects, issued a statement confirming the resignation and subsequent appointment. According to Osagie, Governor Obaseki accepted Ogie’s resignation with gratitude. Ogie had decided to step down to pursue his ambition of becoming the Deputy Governor of Edo State, a role he believes will allow him to better serve the people of the state.

In his statement, Osagie emphasized that Governor Obaseki deeply appreciates Ogie’s dedication and loyalty throughout his tenure. The governor acknowledged Ogie’s significant contributions towards the vision of creating a vibrant and prosperous Edo State, a goal that has been a central focus of Obaseki’s administration over the past seven years. The Governor wished Ogie the best in his new role and expressed confidence that Ogie’s experience and commitment would positively impact his future political endeavors.

Governor Obaseki’s decision to appoint Joseph Eboigbe as the new Secretary to the State Government marks a significant transition in the state’s administration. Eboigbe, who has a distinguished background in finance and economic planning, is expected to bring his expertise to the role and continue driving the Governor’s “Finishing Strong” agenda. This agenda aims to consolidate the achievements of the past seven years and ensure the successful completion of the Governor’s strategic goals.

Eboigbe’s appointment is effective immediately. Before this role, he served as the Governor’s Special Adviser on Budget and Economic Planning. In this capacity, Eboigbe was instrumental in shaping the state’s budgetary policies and economic strategies. He later took on the role of Commissioner for Finance, where he was responsible for overseeing the state’s financial management and ensuring fiscal responsibility. His extensive experience in these roles has prepared him well for his new position as Secretary to the State Government.

Eboigbe brings a strong background in accounting and finance to his new role. He worked for 15 years at Deloitte, a leading global accounting and consulting firm, where he gained valuable experience in financial management and strategic planning. Eboigbe is also a chartered accountant and holds a Master’s degree in Leadership and Strategy from the prestigious London Business School. His academic and professional qualifications make him well-suited to handle the responsibilities of his new role.

The appointment of Joseph Eboigbe is expected to strengthen the Edo State Government’s administrative team and support the Governor’s ongoing efforts to enhance the state’s development. Eboigbe’s deep understanding of financial management and strategic planning is anticipated to be a valuable asset in navigating the state’s governance challenges and achieving the administration’s objectives.

Governor Obaseki and his administration look forward to working with Eboigbe and are confident that his expertise will contribute to the continued progress and success of Edo State. The Governor’s team remains committed to fostering a prosperous and well-managed state, and Eboigbe’s new role is a key part of this commitment.
