Edo State Commissioner for Communication and Orientation, Chris Nehikhare, criticized the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state for neglecting the people’s hardships caused by the federal government’s economic mismanagement over the past nine years. He accused the APC of prioritizing deceitful tactics and propaganda instead of addressing the challenges faced by Edo State residents.
Speaking at a press conference in Benin City, Nehikhare condemned the APC’s strategy of spreading falsehoods to discourage public dissent against its governance. He highlighted the irony of the APC accusing the state government of fraud with unsubstantiated claims, despite Edo’s commitment to transparency and accountability in managing resources.
Nehikhare emphasized, “We are compelled to highlight the plight of Edo citizens and Nigerians at large. Despite our efforts to alleviate suffering through initiatives like increased minimum wage, free WiFi across the state, and a successful transport scheme benefiting over six million residents since its inception in September 2023, many still endure severe hardship due to APC’s mismanagement of the national economy.”
He pointed out the detrimental effects of abrupt subsidy withdrawals and poorly conceived currency unification policies under APC’s governance, which exacerbated economic instability and inflation. Additionally, he criticized APC for hindering business growth through excessive taxes, contributing to economic decline and security challenges, including resurgence in terrorism.
Regarding APC’s conduct in Edo State, Nehikhare remarked, “The party appears oblivious to the devastation caused by its federal counterpart. Like the proverbial ostrich, they bury their heads in the sand and propagate falsehoods to deceive our people, hoping to maintain their grip on power despite nine years of hardship.”
He also condemned APC’s use of fabricated documents and controversies to mislead the public, describing it as a shameful attempt to revive their dwindling influence in Edo State through deceitful means.
