Enyimba FC, a top club in the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL), has announced the termination of head coach Yemi Olanrewaju’s contract.
The club shared the news via a social media post on Saturday, expressing gratitude for the coach’s contributions during his seven-month tenure and wishing him success in his future endeavors.
“Enyimba FC can confirm that it has parted ways with head coach Yemi Olanrewaju. The club thanks Coach Olanrewaju for his services and wishes him the best in his future endeavors,” the statement read.
Olanrewaju’s exit comes amidst a challenging period for the club, including a nine-match winless streak across all competitions. Enyimba has struggled in the NPFL, sitting 11th on the table with 23 points from 15 matches, and has also performed poorly in the CAF Confederations Cup, where they remain at the bottom of Group D with just one point from three matches.
The club’s decision followed a disappointing 1-1 home draw against Plateau United, extending their streak of six consecutive league draws.
During his time as head coach, Olanrewaju oversaw 26 matches, achieving nine wins, 10 draws, and seven losses. Despite his previous coaching experiences with Magate FC, MFM, and Vandrezzer, his stint at Enyimba failed to deliver the expected results for the club.
As Enyimba seeks to reclaim its dominance in the NPFL, the search for a new head coach begins. Fans and analysts will watch closely as the league’s most successful club navigates this transition.
