Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca has recently addressed speculation about Manchester United winger Jadon Sancho, who has emerged as a significant target for Chelsea during this summer’s transfer window. Sancho, who has been playing for Manchester United, is anticipated to join Juventus in the near future. There are also strong indications that he might move to Chelsea on a permanent transfer next summer.
At a recent press conference held before Chelsea’s UEFA Conference League play-off match against Servette, Maresca was asked about the club’s interest in Sancho. The manager took this opportunity to clarify his position on potential new signings and how the club evaluates players.
“I’ve always emphasized that if our goal is merely to sign a player just for the sake of making a new acquisition, then I’m not interested,” Maresca explained. “Our focus is on bringing in players who can genuinely enhance our team and contribute positively to our performance. If a player like Jadon Sancho can meet those criteria and provide the kind of impact we’re looking for, then I am open to considering him.”
Maresca acknowledged his familiarity with Sancho, having worked with him previously. “I know Jadon very well from our time together at Manchester City. We had several years working closely, so I have a good understanding of his skills and potential. His talent is unquestionable, and I respect his abilities on the field. However, it’s important to note that Jadon is not currently one of our players. At this moment, he remains part of Manchester United’s squad, and we must respect that.”
The Chelsea manager further elaborated that any potential transfer would be considered carefully. “It’s vital for us to make strategic decisions that align with our long-term objectives and the needs of the team. While Jadon Sancho is a talented player, we have to ensure that any move we make fits our broader goals. We’ll have to wait and see how things develop and whether an opportunity arises that aligns with our strategic plans.”
As Chelsea prepares for their upcoming match against Servette, the club’s focus remains on performing well in the UEFA Conference League and other competitions. The management continues to evaluate potential signings and strategic moves to build a competitive squad that can achieve success both domestically and in European competitions.
