Kylian Mbappè suffered a nasal fracture during France’s 1-0 triumph over Austria on Monday.
The incident took place during the Group D encounter at Düsseldorf Arena when Mbappé collided with Austria’s Kevin Danso. Subsequent to the collision, the World Cup-winning forward was visibly in discomfort and had to be substituted. France coach Didier Deschamps expressed uncertainty regarding Mbappé’s availability for the remainder of the tournament right after the match.
Mbappè was promptly transported to a hospital in Düsseldorf, where the extent of his injury was verified by the French Football Federation.
In an official statement, the federation remarked, “He will receive medical treatment in the forthcoming days, without an immediate need for surgery. A protective mask will be crafted to enable the French team’s number 10 to contemplate returning to competition after a period dedicated to treatment.”
The injury occurred during an aerial clash when Mbappé’s face collided with Danso’s shoulder, resulting in his nose becoming bloody and swollen.
Austria goalkeeper Patrick Pentz swiftly summoned medical aid upon witnessing Mbappé’s condition.
Despite the setback, Mbappè remained positive and addressed the incident on social media, inquiring, “Any suggestions for protective masks?” on X (formerly Twitter).
France verified that Mbappè had rejoined the team’s training camp alongside the rest of the squad, hinting at his potential comeback to the field with a protective mask in the near future.
