Governor Abba Yusuf of Kano State, on Wednesday, conducted an assessment of the Kano State High Court, which had been vandalized, looted, and set ablaze during the recent nationwide protests against hunger, which turned violent in parts of the North.
During the tour, Yusuf expressed his regret over the invasion and destruction of the state high court by hoodlums, lamenting that “the hired miscreants made away with documents pertaining to corruption charges against the former Governor of Kano State, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, who has been facing multiple charges before the state high court.”
According to a statement released on Wednesday by the governor’s spokesperson, Sanusi Tofa, the governor was escorted around the court premises by the state’s Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Haruna Dederi, the Chief Registrar of the high court, Alhaji Abdullahi Bayero, and some judges.
Yusuf was quoted as saying, “It is highly regrettable that adversaries of Kano State employed undesirable elements to vandalize one of the historic public buildings with the intention of obstructing the corruption charges against the acting National Chairman of the APC and former governor of the state, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, his family, and aides.”
The Chief Judge in his statement also said that the violence which emanated from the recent hunger-protest incidents has resulted in a staggering loss exceeding one billion naira. This was caused by the theft of office equipment, the destruction of offices, the burning of vehicles, and the damage to other crucial materials essential for the administration of justice. Governor Yusuf has called upon the youth of the state to refrain from being manipulated by detractors to engage in acts of violence.
Instead, he has encouraged them to focus their efforts on acquiring valuable skills to improve their future prospects. The Governor has pledged the government’s support in this endeavor. Furthermore, the Governor has ordered the immediate rehabilitation of the courthouse and the deployment of additional security measures to ensure the effective delivery of justice.
