Governor Chukwuma Soludo of Anambra State has unveiled a groundbreaking security initiative, offering rewards of up to N5 million to whistleblowers providing credible information leading to the arrest of kidnappers, armed robbers, or the discovery of criminal hideouts.
The announcement was made during the official launch of *Operation Udo Ga-Achi* (Peace Shall Prevail) on Saturday in Awka. This joint security intervention force is designed to enhance the safety of residents and visitors in Anambra State, addressing the evolving challenges of criminality.
“We are determined to make Anambra the safest state,” Soludo declared, emphasizing the need for collective action to combat insecurity. He urged citizens to report criminal activities through the state’s toll-free line, 5111. In addition to whistleblower rewards, the governor announced a monthly incentive of N10 million for communities maintaining zero crime rates.
The new initiative, backed by the Anambra State Homeland Security Bill 2025, brings together 2,000 personnel from various security agencies, including the Nigerian Police Force, Army, Navy, Department of State Services (DSS), Civil Defence Corps, and the vigilante group, Agunechemba. The operation is supported by 200 patrol vehicles deployed across the state.
“This operation targets issues like kidnapping, armed robbery, cultism, drug abuse, land grabbing, and other violent crimes,” Soludo explained. “Silence means complicity. If you see or know something, speak up!”
In addition to launching the initiative, Governor Soludo also named Igwe Chidubem Iweka of Obosi as the Chairman of the Anambra State Traditional Rulers’ Council. Speaking on behalf of the security agencies, Commissioner of Police Nnaghe Obono-Itam commended the government’s proactive measures and pledged their commitment to ensuring the success of the program.
