The Ido-Osun community in Egbedore Local Government Area of Osun State has applauded the Federal Government for stopping Governor Ademola Adeleke’s plan to relocate the M.K.O. Abiola International Airport to Ede, his hometown. The decision followed a directive from the Federal Ministry of Aviation and Aerospace, communicated through a letter signed by the Permanent Secretary, Dr. Emmanuel Meribole, on December 6.
During a press conference held at the palace of the community’s king, the Ido-Osun Development Union (IDU) expressed gratitude to President Bola Tinubu for prioritizing fairness and ensuring the airport project remains in its original location. The IDU president, Timothy Adeleye, commended the Federal Government’s commitment to the project and urged the state government to collaborate towards its completion.
“We deeply appreciate President Tinubu’s people-centric leadership and the decision to halt the relocation, which aligns with fairness, justice, and peaceful co-existence,” Adeleye said. He criticized the proposed relocation as unnecessary and self-serving, noting that significant resources had already been invested by previous administrations to develop the airport in Ido-Osun.
The community also called on the Federal Government to expedite action on completing the airport, emphasizing its importance to the region’s development. Traditional leaders, including Chief Oyewale Basiru, joined the call, urging the state government to focus on constructive engagement with federal authorities.
The suspension of the relocation plan has been widely welcomed as a step toward ensuring the efficient use of resources and fostering harmony within Osun State.
