The 2023 vice presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Datti Baba-Ahmed, has insisted that the 2023 presidential election was rigged.

Baba-Ahmed made the remark while calling for a credible individual to Chair the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), ahead of the 2027 elections.

Baba-Ahmed accused the INEC Chairman, Mahmood Yakubu, of breaching the constitution during the 2023 election, while speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Friday.

“A credible person, that’s all I want and not someone who will clearly read what the constitution provides— 25 per cent in at least 2/3 of the states of the federation including the FCT— and go ahead to breach the Constitution, put Nigeria in what it is today.

“If you recall, I told you that throughout history, individuals make or break nations, this man is going to be responsible for what has happened, it’s wrong.

“Another arm of government upheld what he did, as small as I am and by the service of God Almighty, it’s wrong what they upheld.

“The court has the power to say that you are wrong even if you are not wrong and we were not wrong, that election was rigged, up till now the results are not consistent with the Nigerian Constitution,” he said.

Baba-Ahmed also stated that he would consider running with Obi if Nigeria’s electoral system improves.

“If Nigeria is still around and there is an electoral system to follow, my love for Nigeria is undying, mark that.

“I will appropriately associate with groups and individuals I think are like minded.”

When asked of the possibility of still running with Peter Obi, he said, “Absolutely, if you had heard what I was saying on air two months ago, there are two individuals that I would succumb to.

“The first has not said, so I won’t say it on his behalf, and the second one is Peter Obi and always Peter Obi until he decides not to.”

When asked if he would consider running with Rotimi Amaechi, he said, “The first person is not Rotimi Amaechi. Amaechi is a good guy. By the way, why do you think that I have to be a deputy? Don’t keep looking at me like a deputy.”
