Jigawa State Governor Umar Namadi paid an unscheduled visit to several Ramadan feeding centers in the Dutse Local Government Area, uncovering shocking instances of mismanagement and neglect.
The visit was intended to assess the effectiveness and efficiency of the programme, which aims to provide food for
vulnerable residents across the state.
The Ramadan feeding programme, approved by the State Executive Council, has a budget of over ₦4.8 billion, with
funding shared between the state government and local governments.
However, some centers were found to be failing in resource management and hygiene practices, prompting the
governor’s strong disapproval.During his inspection, Namadi expressed disappointment and frustration at the level of
mismanagement and neglect he witnessed.
“I am disappointed, but not surprised, by the level of mismanagement and neglect I have seen today,” he stated. “It is
unacceptable that some individuals would seek to cheat and deprive our people of the benefits they deserve.”The
governor emphasized the need for transparency, fairness, and proper hygiene in food distribution, urging those
responsible for the shortcomings to address them immediately.
