Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, is pleased that the Amanyanabo of Okochiri kingdom, King Ateke Tom, remains one of his staunchest allies despite the political turmoil that nearly jeopardized his administration. The Governor emphasized that only resounding success will be associated with his leadership in delivering social services, crucial projects, and upholding peace throughout the State. Governor Fubara conveyed this sentiment during a Thanksgiving gathering hosted by King Ateke Michael Tom in honor of his 60th birthday. The event took place at his residence in Okochiri Town, Okrika Local Government Area on a Sunday evening.

King Ateke Tom organized the celebration to express gratitude to God for his traditional stool’s elevation from second-class to first-class status, and the honor bestowed upon him by the Okrika people as the Ama Poku (spokesman) of Kirike Se.

Governor Fubara reassured that the worst of the political crisis that challenged governance in the State is now behind them. He highlighted that the government is diligently working towards providing top-notch services and significant infrastructure projects in alignment with the administration’s ‘people first’ ideology.

“I stand in solidarity with you, King Ateke Tom, and I commend you for your unwavering support. The era of political turmoil is behind us. Our focus now is on progress and advancement for our State. I am grateful for your alliance, and I promise that our administration will be synonymous with nothing but success, success, and more success,” he affirmed.

Governor Fubara commended King Ateke Tom for incorporating gratitude towards God in the celebration, rather than merely distributing refreshments to guests. He acknowledged that achieving the age of 60 is significant, especially in today’s context of declining life expectancy due to lifestyle changes and technological influences. “As a government, it is our responsibility to support those who contribute to the peace and development of our State. Celebrating milestones like turning 40, 50, and now 60, such as King Ateke Tom has, is a testament to God’s grace,” he expressed.

Reflecting on King Ateke Tom’s life journey, Governor Fubara remarked on the miraculous nature of his longevity despite facing life-threatening situations. He attributed King Ateke Tom’s survival to divine providence and emphasized the importance of celebrating such exceptional milestones. “I am delighted to announce that we will continue to stand by your side. I extend my gratitude to all present here today to celebrate our brother. Thank you for your support. While no one is perfect, it is evident how much King Ateke Tom dedicates to ensuring the happiness of others and fostering peace in Okrika,” the Governor stated.

Governor Fubara extended his best wishes to King Ateke Tom for more prosperous years on the throne and encouraged him to persist in promoting peace and development not only in Okochiri Kingdom but throughout Okrika land. “I am honored to be part of this celebration. King Ateke Tom commemorates three significant events: his birthday, the special honor bestowed upon him by the Okrika people, and the recognition by the Office of the Governor,” he emphasized. He highlighted the rarity of celebrating such threefold blessings simultaneously and wished King Ateke Tom success in all his future endeavors.

During his welcome address, former Minister of Transport and event chairman, Chief Abiye Sekibo, emphasized the significance of the reception in honoring a revered son and king. He viewed the triple celebration as a gesture of gratitude towards God for King Ateke Tom’s life, reaching his 60th birthday, and the recognition bestowed upon him by the Okrika people and the State Government. Chief Sekibo expressed appreciation for Governor Fubara’s presence and reiterated the Okrika people’s commitment to supporting the Governor to ensure his success in governance.

In his message of goodwill, Amanyanabo of Opobo Kingdom, King Dandeson Douglas Jaja, acknowledged the abundant blessings that King Ateke Tom received within a year of Governor Fubara’s administration. He praised King Ateke Tom’s philanthropic spirit, ability to unite people, and wisdom in governing his kingdom. King Jaja recalled King Ateke Tom’s courage and determination in advocating for justice and equity in the Niger Delta region, emphasizing the region’s newfound respect. He urged King Ateke Tom to continue guiding and directing the people of the Niger Delta towards greater achievements.
