The Governor of Kogi State, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo, has given the green light for the rehabilitation of 70 Primary Healthcare Centres (PHCs) across the state. The announcement, made on Thursday 23rd May 2024 during a momentous occasion heralding the distribution of medical equipment and consumables to healthcare facilities in the State, underscores the administration’s commitment to healthcare revitalization.

With funding already secured by the state government and pre-qualified contractors poised to commence work, the refurbishment project is set to benefit communities across the 21 local government areas, with seven new facilities set to be established in previously underserved areas.
Governor Ododo reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to revitalizing the health sector in the State during his speech at the ceremony, which also marked the commencement of the Seasonal Malaria Chemoprevention (SMC) programme for children by the state Ministry of Health and its donor partners in Lokoja.

Governor Ododo, in his address, emphasized the paramount importance of inclusive healthcare access for all residents of the state. “No individual should be denied quality and affordable healthcare services under our watch,” he asserted, highlighting his administration’s dedication to providing equitable healthcare for all.
The state Commissioner for Health, Dr AbdulAzeez Adams, lauded the government’s investment in healthcare infrastructure and the collaboration with partners to equip healthcare facilities with essential medical supplies. The provision of equipment ranging from Oxygen Concentrators to Mobile X-ray machines, showcases the state’s commitment to enhancing healthcare delivery and ensuring the well-being of its citizens.

Moreover, Governor Ododo unveiled plans to revamp the Kogi State Central Medical Store and the Cold Chain Facility, promising improved storage capabilities for drugs and medical supplies. This strategic move aims to streamline procurement processes and reduce costs, ultimately enhancing the quality and efficiency of healthcare services in the state.
“I am proud to announce these initiatives that will transform our healthcare system and ensure that every resident of Kogi State receives the quality healthcare they deserve.
“By revitalizing our healthcare infrastructure and strengthening our procurement processes, we are taking a significant step towards a healthier future for our people,” said Governor Ododo.
