The Labour Party has firmly denied claims that it issued a resignation ultimatum to Peter Obi over coalition activities.
Acting National Chairman, Senator Nenadi Usman, reaffirmed the party’s unwavering support for Peter Obi coalition support efforts.
Through her media aide, Ken Eluma Asogwa, Usman clarified the party’s endorsement of Obi’s coalition participation on May 26.
The clarification follows threats made by the Julius Abure faction, demanding Peter Obi’s resignation within 48 hours.
Nenadi Usman described the ultimatum as baseless and linked it to suspended individuals with no legal party standing.
She stated Peter Obi coalition support received the full backing of the Labour Party’s legitimate leadership without any conditions.
“The party’s position remains unchanged; we publicly supported Obi’s efforts to form a strong opposition to the ruling APC,” she stated.
She condemned those issuing the ultimatum, calling them “political jesters” expelled for misconduct and anti-party behaviour by court rulings.
Nenadi insisted only her office can issue official Labour Party positions, and the public should ignore unlawful distractions.
The Labour Party described the coalition as a timely move to challenge APC’s failures and unite Nigeria’s democratic opposition voices.
It noted Peter Obi coalition support represents a strategic step to rescue Nigeria from widespread hardship and political mismanagement.
Usman’s camp accused detractors of attempting to derail internal reforms and mislead the public with fabricated factional narratives.
Obi’s participation in the coalition was planned, agreed upon, and celebrated by party leaders as a national rescue mission.
The statement reaffirmed that Labour Party remains united under Usman’s leadership and committed to its progressive political mission.
It urged media outlets and citizens to rely solely on official Labour Party channels for credible and verified information.
