The Lagos State Government has announced a traffic diversion affecting the Ikeja-Along bus stop area, specifically between Ile Zik and Conoil Petrol Station on the Oshodi-bound lane. This change will be in effect from Saturday night to Sunday morning.
According to Mr. Oluwaseun Osiyemi, the Commissioner for Transportation, the diversion will occur daily from midnight until 4 a.m. These adjustments are necessary to facilitate the demolition of the old pedestrian bridge, a project managed by the Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA). The demolition work is part of ongoing efforts to improve infrastructure and safety in the area.
During the diversion period, motorists traveling on the Oshodi-bound side of the road, from Ile Zik bus stop to Conoil Petrol Station will encounter a reduced traffic flow. Only one lane will be available to drivers in this stretch to ensure that the demolition can be carried out safely. This lane restriction is intended to minimize potential hazards and keep both workers and drivers safe during the operation.
Mr. Osiyemi emphasized that the traffic diversion will not impact vehicles traveling towards Dopemu or Abule Egba. Those routes will remain open and unaffected by the ongoing construction activities. To help manage the flow of traffic and reduce inconvenience, officials from the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) will be present at key points to direct drivers and address any issues that may arise.
The Commissioner also noted that the construction area will be secured with jersey barriers and protective nets. These measures are designed to protect both motorists and pedestrians by clearly marking the construction zone and preventing accidental entry into the work area. The barriers and nets will help ensure a safe environment during the demolition process.
Osiyemi has called for the cooperation and understanding of the public during this period. He urged drivers to follow the traffic signs and directions provided by LASTMA officials to navigate the area efficiently. The cooperation of all road users is crucial to ensuring that the work proceeds smoothly and that traffic flow remains as orderly as possible.
This project reflects the state government’s commitment to enhancing road infrastructure and safety. By replacing the old pedestrian bridge with a new structure, the government aims to improve the overall transportation experience for residents and visitors alike. The traffic diversion is a temporary measure, and once the demolition is complete, normal traffic patterns will resume. Motorists are advised to plan their routes accordingly and allow extra travel time to avoid delays.
