The All Progressives Congress (APC) has emerged victorious in every chairmanship position contested in Saturday’s local government elections in Nasarawa State and Cross River State.
According to reports, in Nasarawa, the ruling party was declared winner of the chairmanship poll in all 13 local governments of the state.
During a press briefing, the chairman of the Nasarawa State Independent Electoral Commission (NASIEC), Ayuba Wandai, declared that for the 147 councillorship seats, APC won in 140 wards, while the Social Democratic Party (SDP) won in 5 wards and the Zenith Labour Party (ZLP) in 2 wards.
In a similar event in Cross River State, the APC emerged victorious in all 18 local government chairmanship positions and 196 councillorship seats.
The results for the outcome of the Cross River elections were officially announced on Sunday at the State Independent Electoral Commission (CROSIEC) by the Chairman, Ekong Bocco.
Certificates of Return were given to each of the elected chairmen, who were comprised of 15 men and 3 women, as soon as the announcement was made.
The Governor’s Chief of Staff, Hon. Emmanuel Ironbar, congratulated all the winners and outlined the important responsibilities that await the newly elected officials. These include meeting the needs of their constituents, fostering transparency, and keeping their electoral pledges in accordance with the People First Mantra, which is supported by State Governor Bassey Edet Otu.
