A Chief Magistrates’ Court in Jimeta, Yola, Adamawa State, has sentenced Nuhu Isah to six months in prison for inciting a mob attack against a Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) patrol team. The incident occurred on January 5, 2025, when Isah, a passer-by, recorded the officers on duty and encouraged passengers to confront them.
The court, presided over by Chief Magistrate Mohammed Njidda, delivered the judgment on Tuesday, January 7, offering the defendant the option to pay a N20,000 fine in lieu of serving the jail term. This decision underscores the judiciary’s stance against actions undermining public safety officers.
In a statement issued by the FRSC spokesperson, Assistant Corps Marshal Olusegun Ogungbemide, the Corps explained that the defendant’s actions disrupted lawful enforcement duties and posed a threat to the safety of FRSC personnel. Isah was apprehended and swiftly prosecuted to set a precedent against such behavior.
The Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed, noted the FRSC’s commitment to ensuring safety on Nigeria’s roads. He called on road users to cooperate with the Corps rather than engage in acts that endanger both officers and the public. Mohammed also emphasized that FRSC personnel would not be intimidated by threats or violence from miscreants.
