On Monday, residents of Port Harcourt were awakened by an explosion at the Action People’s Party (APP) secretariat in the GRA area of the city. The blast, which occurred around 1 am, was reported to be caused by a detonated dynamite.
The perpetrators of this act have not been identified at the time of reporting. However, the incident may be connected to the ongoing leadership crisis within the party in the state. It is reported that suspected political thugs detonated the substance, believed to be dynamite, into the building housing the party’s secretariat. The resulting explosion shattered the windows and doors, as well as destroying other property of the party.
The blast also caused damage to the ceiling and fittings in the building, leaving the party’s leadership and members in a state of panic.
This development comes amidst speculations that the Governor of Rivers State, Siminialayi Fubara, is planning to move with his supporters to the Action People’s Party, following the alleged takeover of the Peoples Democratic Party in the state by his predecessor and the Minister of Federal Capital Territory, Chief Nyesom Wike.
Mr. Chimene a member of the Action People’s Party in Rivers State confirmed the incident to journalists, “Yes, I’m a member of the APP. I was informed of the attack about 3 am today. “This is politically motivated and there is no two ways about it. They know that the APP is a fast-growing political party in the state. We call on the police to investigate this and arrest the culprits.” he said
