Enugu State Governor, Chief Peter Mbah, has inaugurated a computerized Vehicle Inspection Centre in Enugu to enhance vehicle performance and decrease road accidents in the state.
This center, one of four to be established in various regions of the state, aims to tackle issues related to vehicle roadworthiness.
Mbah, represented by the Commissioner for Transport, Dr. Obi Ozor, emphasized that the state-of-the-art facility signifies a significant advancement in the state government’s dedication to promoting road safety, environmental conservation, and the general welfare of the populace.
“As we convene here today, we are not merely unveiling a new edifice; we are ushering in a new era of transportation safety and effectiveness in Enugu State.
“The establishment of this computerized vehicle inspection center is proof of our commitment to modernizing our infrastructure and improving the standard of living for all our inhabitants.
“By utilizing cutting-edge diagnostic equipment and automated procedures, we can ensure that every vehicle on our roads adheres to the highest safety and environmental standards.
In his remarks, the Group Managing Director of Temple Group Limited, Segun Obayando, a partner in the project with the government, stated that the facility has the capacity to inspect 210 vehicles daily.
“What we are implementing today is not groundbreaking, but rather a return to what is correct and away from what is incorrect. Vehicle inspections have been conducted since the colonial era and are a standard practice globally; we believed it was imperative for Enugu State to be part of this.
“The legislation mandates that private vehicles undergo an annual inspection by a Vehicle Inspection Officer, while commercial vehicles must be inspected twice a year.
“Our objective today was to pave the way for modernization, digitization, and automation to streamline these processes and ensure a reduction in biases,” he explained.
