The Federal Government has reiterated its dedication to enhancing the security landscape in the nation for the better.
Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji Ojo, made this statement during a courtesy visit by the Swedish Ambassador to Nigeria, Mrs. Annika Hahn-Englund, on Thursday in Abuja.
“We are progressively gaining ground in the battle against terrorism and violent extremism through the implementation of various strategic measures to confront this menace.
“Nigeria remains a hidden gem for global investments, ensuring the safety and security of investments in the country.
“We anticipate further fruitful collaborations in the realms of economics, business, and migration control,” the minister informed his visitors.
Tunji-Ojo praised the longstanding relationship between the two countries, highlighting that Nigeria’s trade volume with Sweden has now reached $183 million.
He noted that Sweden holds a significant position as one of Nigeria’s key trade partners.
“We cherish our ties with Sweden. The trade relations have seen a positive growth trajectory since 1995, increasing from $29.6 million to the current US $183 million, marking a 6.7% annual uptick in trade volume.
“This growth rate of almost 7% annually indicates the effectiveness of our collaboration and partnership,” he remarked.
The minister underscored the government’s commitment to significantly improving the country’s security situation to pave the way for increased foreign investment and cooperation.
In an earlier statement, Hahn-Englund mentioned that her visit aimed to gain insights into the priorities of the Ministry of Interior, receive updates on Nigeria’s security landscape, and explore Swedish investments in Nigeria.
