Ministry of Petroleum Resources Seeks Support for Nigeria’s Hydrogen Conference

The Ministry of Petroleum Resources, in collaboration with the Foundation for Sustainable Social Responsibility in Emerging Africa (FOSSREA), is actively seeking support for the National Conference and Exhibition on Hydrogen, which will take place in Nigeria later this year. This initiative is part of Nigeria’s broader strategy to advance its energy transition and promote hydrogen as a key component of cleaner energy solutions.

Engr. Kamoru Busari, Director of the Office of the Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, recently met with his counterparts to emphasize Nigeria’s dedication to achieving carbon neutrality by 2060. This commitment is outlined in the country’s Energy Transition Plan, which aims to reduce carbon emissions and promote sustainable energy sources. Engr. Busari underscored the importance of inter-ministerial collaboration to advance hydrogen technology and ensure the success of the upcoming conference.

During this visit, Engr. Busari expressed his gratitude to Dr. Dunoma Umar Ahmed, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, for accommodating the team on such short notice. He highlighted the Ministry’s crucial role in facilitating international participation, noting that numerous embassies and foreign delegates are expected at the conference.

Dr. Ahmed pledged the full support of his Ministry, stressing their role in attracting foreign investment to Nigeria and expressing enthusiasm for the country’s transition to renewable and cleaner energy sources.
In a related effort, Mrs. Oluremi Komolafe, Director of the Gas Department at the Ministry of Petroleum Resources, led a courtesy visit to the Federal Ministry of Industry, Trade, and Investment.

This visit, made on behalf of the Permanent Secretary, aimed to discuss the significance of Nigeria’s hydrogen resources and the upcoming conference. Mrs. Komolafe highlighted the importance of leveraging these resources in the global shift towards renewable energy and discussed ongoing efforts in collaboration with FOSSREA to ensure the event’s success.

Ambassador Nura Abba Rimi, the Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Industry, Trade, and Investment, warmly welcomed the delegation. He emphasized the Ministry’s commitment to working closely with the Ministry of Petroleum Resources and supporting hydrogen investment. He also noted that the Nigeria Investment Promotion Commission is dedicated to providing a level playing field for investors and underscored the potential profitability of investing in hydrogen and natural gas, particularly in the context of the global energy transition.

These meetings reflect a concerted effort to foster inter-ministerial cooperation and build support for Nigeria’s hydrogen development initiatives. By ensuring robust collaboration, the country aims to maintain its position as a leader in the global energy transition.

Meanwhile, Amb. Nicholas Agbo Ella, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Petroleum Resources, has called for increased engagement and collaboration among all stakeholders to ensure the success of Nigeria’s energy sector. Ella emphasized that achieving the country’s energy objectives requires strong partnerships between the government, private sector, academia, and civil society. He urged all involved parties to work together to drive innovation, address challenges, and realize Nigeria’s energy goals.
