The completion and connection of the 132/33kv electricity substation built at Ode-Erinje in Okitipupa Local Government Area of Ondo State by the Niger Delta Development Commission has been confirmed. The NDDC’s Executive Director of Projects, Victor Antai during an inspection of the project, described the power station as a significant project that would enhance economic activities in Ondo State and raise the living standards of the communities it serves. Antai emphasized the commitment of the NDDC to providing electricity to oil-producing communities in Ondo South Senatorial District that have been without power for 15 years. The inauguration of the sub-station is scheduled for April.
Antai emphasized that the power substation project aligns with the mandate to complete and commission legacy projects for the benefit of the people in the Niger Delta region. He also mentioned plans to replicate similar projects across all states in the Niger Delta, recognizing the support of the President and the NDDC’s Governing Board for prioritizing the welfare of the people.
The NDDC is dedicated to illuminating all local government areas and oil-producing communities in Ondo South Senatorial District as part of its infrastructure and development projects in the region. The commission aims to complete ongoing projects to fulfill its mandate.
Furthermore, the NDDC anticipates providing electricity to more than 2,000 communities in five local government areas within the oil-producing region of Ondo State, ending years of insufficient power supply. A contract for the comprehensive rehabilitation of the distribution network has been awarded to facilitate the connection to the national grid and enable the communities to enjoy electricity.
Additionally, Benson Obayelu highlighted the project scope, including the transmission of electricity from Omotosho to Ode-Erinje, Okitipupa, through a double circuit transmission line. The project will impact communities that have been lacking public power supply.
Various stakeholders, including Dr. Obafemi Ogbaro and Otito Atikase, emphasized the importance of connecting communities to the national grid, citing the substantial benefits for economic development and quality of life. The completion of the substation marks a significant achievement for the NDDC, as announced by the Director of Corporate Affairs, Pius Ughakpoteni. The substation will soon be inaugurated and subsequently handed over to the Transmission Company of Nigeria for operational management following a performance bond agreement with the Ministry of Niger Delta Development.
