The Charles Heart Ex-Inmates Reformation Foundation, a non-governmental organization dedicated to supporting vulnerable individuals, has facilitated the release of four inmates from the Ilesa Correctional Centre in Osun State. The foundation paid fines totalling over N1 million, enabling the inmates to regain their freedom.
In addition to securing the inmates’ release, the foundation donated two tyres and a car battery to the correctional facility. These contributions aim to ease the transportation of inmates to court for trials, which had been hindered by the facility’s logistical challenges.
The foundation’s Director, Charles Osaghae, expressed a strong commitment to reforming the justice system and providing support to those in need. He also announced plans to offer free legal representation to current inmates at the facility, emphasizing the importance of access to justice for individuals who cannot afford legal services.
Osaghae revealed that the foundation had previously visited Kirikiri Prison in Lagos and the Agodi Correctional Facility in Ibadan, where they helped release 39 inmates by paying their fines. He called on the government to do more to improve correctional facilities and ensure legal representation for indigent inmates, urging wealthy individuals to contribute to such humanitarian efforts.
The officer in charge of the Ilesa Correctional Centre, Abolarin Ashaolu, commended the foundation for its impactful contributions. He described the gesture as a commendable example of kindness and appealed for similar support from other organizations and individuals.
