The Nigerian Army has recently achieved a significant victory against Boko Haram militants with a successful operation that resulted in the elimination of a notorious commander, Abu Rijab, and several other terrorists. This operation occurred in Bula Daloye, located in the Bama Local Government Area of Borno State.
According to a report shared on the Army’s official X account, the troops engaged in a fierce firefight with the terrorists. They were able to overpower the militants, neutralizing three of them, including the high-profile Boko Haram commander Abu Rijab. During this operation, the Army also recovered two AK-47 rifles and several mobile phones, which may contain valuable intelligence.
The operation was part of a broader strategy that has been putting substantial pressure on terrorist groups. As a result of these ongoing efforts, numerous terrorists and their families have surrendered to the Nigerian troops.
Specifically, eight individuals, including terrorists and their families, surrendered in Gwoza Local Government Area. This surrender is a testament to the increasing effectiveness of the military’s pressure tactics on Boko Haram’s strongholds.
In addition to these successes, the Army has made further significant arrests. In Konduga Local Government Area, two suspects were apprehended with 52 bags of illicit drugs. These drugs were intended for distribution to terrorist groups, highlighting the Army’s role in disrupting not just militant activities but also their support networks.
In Taraba State, the Army arrested Alhaji Adamu Tanko, the chairman of the Gassol Local Government Area Hunters’ Association. Tanko was found to have sold an AK-47 rifle to a suspected terrorist. The rifle, which was part of a larger cache of weapons seized during a joint operation in Boki Lamba—an area on the border with Plateau State—underscores the Army’s ongoing efforts to curb illegal arms trafficking.
Meanwhile, in Plateau State, troops apprehended two suspected criminals in the Rikkos area of Jos North Local Government Area. They discovered a fabricated rifle and mobile phone containing images of various firearms and ammunition. These findings suggest a broader network of criminal activity linked to the militants.
The Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja, commended the troops for their resilience and dedication. He praised their commitment to the fight against terrorism and emphasized the importance of their efforts in securing peace and stability in the region. The successful operations demonstrate the Army’s growing effectiveness in combating terrorism and its commitment to maintaining security across affected areas.
