The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) has introduced a new device designed to expedite the process for subscribers to meet the Nigeria Communications Commission (NCC) deadline for the National Identification Number (NIN) and Subscriber Identity Module (SIM) linkage.
This move is intended to help individuals efficiently update their records without unnecessary delays as the deadline approaches.
In an interview, the Bauchi State Coordinator of NIMC explained that the newly introduced self-modification device comes with a range of functionalities.
These devices allow subscribers to update crucial information such as their name, address, date of birth, and email address.
This feature aims to streamline the NIN-SIM linkage process, ensuring that citizens can make any necessary adjustments to their records promptly and conveniently.
For those who are digitally literate, Ibrahim also revealed that a “website address” has been provided by the NIMC.
This online platform is designed for individuals who are comfortable operating “Android devices”, allowing them to update their records remotely without the need to visit the NIMC office in person. 
This innovation is expected to make the process more accessible, particularly for those who may have difficulty traveling to the office.
However, Ibrahim mentioned that the state has currently received only “eight self-modification devices” from the NIMC headquarters, which have been distributed across the three senatorial districts in Bauchi.
These devices are expected to enhance the ability of residents to make the necessary updates in line with the NCC’s directive, thus ensuring smooth and timely compliance with the NIN-SIM linkage requirements.
In response to questions regarding operational challenges, Ibrahim reassured the public that there were no significant issues with the facilities in the state.
He emphasized that the available machines are functioning effectively, and staff members are always on hand to provide assistance to those who need help.
“We’re not facing any challenges with our facilities, our machines are working effectively as well, and our staff are always on the ground to serve the people,” he stated.
The introduction of this self-modification device by the NIMC is seen as a proactive step in ensuring that the public can meet the regulatory deadline without unnecessary hassles.
By providing both physical devices and online platforms, the NIMC is seeking to improve the efficiency and accessibility of the NIN-SIM linkage process for all Nigerians.
