The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) dissolves the leadership of its Edo State Council over alleged unethical conduct.
The decision, effective August 11, 2025, was detailed in a letter to the Minister of Labour and Employment.
According to NLC Acting General Secretary Benson Upah, the action followed anti-union activities and gross breaches of the Congress constitution.
He stated that the dissolved leadership engaged in conduct undermining the integrity and unity of the labour movement in Edo State.
A five-member caretaker committee has been appointed to manage the council’s affairs until fresh elections produce new officers.
Members include Lewis Monday Igbafen (ASUU), Ochei Onyebuchi Mike (NUTGTWN), Orein Charles Uwanle (JUSUN), and Nwaneli Thankgod (MWUN).
The fifth member, Augustine Ekanem (NUCFRLANMPE), will work with the committee to ensure smooth operations and fair electoral processes.
Upah confirmed that the interim body will oversee daily affairs and facilitate a credible election for substantive council leadership.
He added that despite the dissolve of the Edo State Council, the NLC remains committed to protecting workers’ interests and enforcing compliance with union rules nationwide.
The Congress urged members in Edo to cooperate fully with the caretaker committee during the transition and election period.
