Muhammad Auwal Musa, the National Youth Leader of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), is calling for urgent assistance from both the government and compassionate individuals to help those affected by the recent floods in Maiduguri, Borno State.

In a statement released to the press on Thursday, Musa, who also serves as the chairman of the National Youth Leaders Forum of Political Parties in Nigeria, expressed deep concern over the devastating effects of the floods.

The flooding has caused widespread destruction, leaving many residents without homes, jobs, and essential resources. Reports indicate that countless individuals are now displaced, struggling to find shelter and basic necessities like food and clean water. The situation has created immense suffering, with families facing dire conditions.

Musa recognized the goodwill shown by many Nigerians who have stepped up to help but emphasized that much more is needed to effectively address the crisis.

In his statement, Musa urged the Federal Government to take immediate action to provide emergency relief and support for the communities that have been affected. He highlighted the importance of delivering food, medical supplies, and shelter to those in urgent need.

Additionally, he called for the government to initiate long-term strategies aimed at preventing future flooding. This could include better infrastructure, improved drainage systems, and proactive environmental measures.

Musa pointed out that the government has a critical responsibility to prioritize the welfare and safety of its citizens, especially in times of crisis. He urged the mobilization of resources, both financial and material, to ensure a prompt and effective response to alleviate the suffering of those impacted by the floods. He emphasized that the current situation is not just a local problem but a national concern that requires collective action.

“The scale of this disaster demands a comprehensive response from the Federal Government,” Musa stated. He called for collaboration between government agencies, non-governmental organizations, and local communities to create a coordinated relief effort. Such collaboration could lead to more effective distribution of aid and better support for recovery efforts.

Moreover, Musa expressed hope that individuals and organizations across the country would join in the efforts to help those affected. He encouraged citizens to contribute in any way they could, whether through donations, volunteering, or raising awareness about the needs of flood victims.

As the floodwaters begin to recede, Musa stressed that it is a critical time for the government to demonstrate its commitment to the welfare of its people, by taking decisive action now, the government can help restore hope and stability to those who have lost so much.
