No Country Can Advance In The Face Of Insecurity – Obi

Presidential candidate of the Labour Party in the 2023 election, Mr. Peter Obi, emphasized that progress is unattainable amid insecurity, stressing that security is a prerequisite for advancement.
Obi made these remarks during the scholarships and awards night held to honor icons of democracy, organized by the Coalition for the Protection of Democracy (COPDEM).
During the event, which was held in Abuja, accolades were bestowed upon the champions of democracy, whose steadfast commitment has paved the way for positive transformation in Nigeria.
In his absence, former chairman of the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC), Peter Ameh, conveyed Obi’s sentiments, stating, “The award symbolizes the exceptional indomitable spirit of the Nigerian populace.

The Nigerian people displayed remarkable dedication in 2023. Peter Obi entered the election arena with integrity, honesty, and a proven history of service to the people, both in the public and private sectors, qualities that propelled him to victory in the election.
“Nigerians value individuals of high moral standing, despite being let down by many. Before switching political allegiances, individuals sought out parties with influential governors and senators. The fact that a party lacking structure or prominence rose to prominence is a testament to the Nigerian people’s discernment.”

Furthermore, addressing the significance of the event, COPDEM National Chairman Prince Rwang Pam Jr. remarked, “At a broader level, there are individuals who risked their lives in the face of intimidation to speak the truth in defense of democracy. It is imperative that we do not disregard such individuals. Their sacrifices deserve our recognition.
“At a more solemn level, we have heroes such as Dele Giwa, Gani Fawehnmi, and MKO Abiola, who made the ultimate sacrifice. It is our duty to honor and remember them.”
Among the distinguished Nigerians who received the Icon awards at the event were Peter Obi, Aisha Yusufu, Bishop Mathew Hassan Kukah, HRH Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, Rufai Oseni, Kenneth Okonkwo, and the late President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua.

COPDEM functions as an autonomous Political Action Group (PAG).
Scholarships of N1 million, N500,000, and N200,000 were awarded to three students: Benedict Princess Nneka from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, Arinola Oluwaleke Micheal from Osun State University, Osogbo, and Ekanem Precious Emmanuel from Arthur Jarvis University, Cross River State.
